Despite Its Age, Cash Still Works

Despite being more than 2,000 years old, cash is still spry in the Americas.  That’s one of the conclusions of the Americas Cash Index, the third installment in the PYMNTS.com Global Cash Index™ series powered by Cardtronics.

The index looks at the total number of payments made with cash and cash use as a percent of GDP, as well as projects changes in cash use based on proprietary data analysis.  Countries included in the Americas study were Brazil, Mexico and the U.S.

Some of the findings of the index?

  • Between 2015 and 2020, cash share will increase slightly by 0.3 percent.
  • Cash use for payments in the Americas is expected to have grown 14 percent between 2015 and 2020
